This loop-like behavior undermines the promise of having support just a tap away.

There are reports of the app using a very high amount of mobile and Wi-Fi data and draining a significant share of phone battery even when the scooter is not being used and is not physically near the phone. In one case, during a period from midnight to early morning, the app was said to have consumed around 3,500 Wi-Fi data packets and about 22 percent of the phone’s battery, all while the vehicle itself stayed idle.

This heavy background activity feels especially worrying because the app requests location access and a range of other permissions. When an app continues to communicate in the background in this way, some riders may feel uneasy about what is being transmitted and why it needs to be so active when the scooter is not in use.

Overall impression

Ola Electric brings a strong concept to the table: one app that gives you control over locks, trunk, media, calls, navigation, scooter information, charging status, support, and roadside assistance, plus Wear OS compatibility. On paper, it covers almost everything you would expect from a connected scooter app.

However, persistent issues hold it back. The support section feels confusing and unhelpful, remote status checks can be less useful if they only work within Bluetooth range, and reports of high data and power consumption create understandable doubts about its background behavior.

For Ola scooter owners, the app can still be worthwhile for core functions like checking battery and range, managing locks, and using smartwatch controls. Riders who are sensitive to battery drain, data usage, or privacy should monitor the app’s behavior closely and be prepared for a support experience that may not match the promise suggested by the feature list.
